Getting Started
Do I need an account?
No. Poussée works without any account, on every platform. Your progress is stored locally. If you want to sync across devices, sign in with your email — we send a magic link, no password needed.
Do I need internet to play?
No. Every core feature — AI coach, puzzles, Stockfish, lessons, bots — works fully offline on the native apps. The web version requires an initial load but then works offline if your browser supports service workers.
What platforms is Poussée available on?
iOS (iPhone & iPad), macOS, Windows, Linux, and the web. An Apple Watch app is also available for quick puzzles. Visit the download page for all options.
Web App
How do I use Poussée in my browser?
Just visit poussee.com. No download or sign-up needed. Start solving puzzles, playing bots, or exploring lessons immediately.
Does the web version work offline?
Partially. After the initial page load, puzzle data and game logic are cached in your browser. However, the web version works best with an internet connection. For full offline play, use the native app for your platform.
How do I sign in on the web?
Click "Sign in" in the navigation, enter your email, and check for a magic link. Click the link and you're in — no password to remember. Your progress will sync across all devices where you're signed in.
What's the difference between the web and native apps?
Core features are identical. The native apps add: full offline mode, Apple Watch support, iCloud sync (iOS), haptic feedback, Siri Shortcuts, Live Activities, and the on-device AI coach (iOS 26+). The web version uses a template-based coach.
Gameplay
How do I resign or offer a draw?
Tap the menu button (top-right of the board) during any game. You will see resign, draw offer, rematch, and analyze options.
Can I take back a move?
In casual games vs bots, yes — use the undo button. In rated tournaments, takebacks are disabled to preserve ratings.
How does the rating system work?
Puzzles use Glicko-2. Games vs bots use a modified Elo that only counts against bots you have not yet defeated.
AI Coach
What's the difference between the coach personas?
Three personas modulate tone: Encouraging (warm, supportive), Tactical (concrete, calculation-focused), and Grandmaster (terse, positional). Analysis strength is identical — only the voice changes.
Is my data sent anywhere when I use the coach?
No. On iOS, the coach runs entirely on-device using Apple Foundation Models. On the web, it uses pre-built explanation templates. Your moves and positions never leave your device.
Subscriptions & IAP
What does Poussée Pro unlock?
Unlimited deep analysis, all coach personas, all bots (bypass the unlock ladder), unlimited puzzle rush, and advanced opening prep. Core features including puzzles, lessons, and the coach are free forever.
How do I cancel my subscription?
On iOS: Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions > Poussée Pro > Cancel. On other platforms, manage through the respective store. You keep Pro access until the end of the current billing period.
How do I restore purchases on a new device?
On iOS, go to Settings > Restore Purchases and sign in with the same Apple ID. On the web, sign in with the same email you used to purchase.
Sync & Data
How do I sync progress across devices?
On iOS: automatic via iCloud (same Apple ID on both devices). On the web and cross-platform: sign in with the same email on each device. Progress syncs within seconds.
Why isn't sync working?
On iOS: check Settings > Apple ID > iCloud and make sure Poussée is toggled on. On the web: make sure you're signed in (check the top-right of the nav). If it still fails, email us with your platform and browser version.
Apple Watch
What can I do on the watch?
Solve the daily puzzle, check your rating, glance at your streak, and see complications on your watch face. The full game experience stays on iPhone.
Complications aren't updating. Help?
Open the Poussée watch app once to force a refresh. iOS budgets complication updates, so they may lag by an hour.
Troubleshooting
The app or website crashed. What should I do?
On native: force-quit and reopen. On the web: refresh the page. A crash report is automatically sent to us (via Sentry, personal data scrubbed). If the problem persists, email support with your device/browser and OS version.
Stockfish is playing too fast / too slow.
On native: Settings > Engine > Think Time. On the web: the engine uses a lite single-threaded build for browser compatibility, which may play slightly differently than the native multi-threaded version.
I still need help.
Email support@poussee.app with your platform, browser/OS version, and a short description. We reply within 24 hours on weekdays.
