Corresponding Squares

Corresponding squares (also called conjugate squares) generalize the concept of opposition for complex pawn endgames. Each square the attacking king can go to has a 'corresponding' square the defending king must reach to hold the position. If the defender cannot reach the corresponding square, the attacker breaks through.
