Doubled Pawn Endgames

Doubled pawns (two pawns on the same file) are a structural weakness in endgames. They cannot protect each other and effectively reduce your pawn majority. However, doubled pawns are not always bad -- they can control extra squares and create half-open files. In endgames, their drawbacks are amplified.
