The Isolated Queen's Pawn (IQP)

An isolated queen's pawn (IQP) is a pawn on d4 (or d5 for Black) with no friendly pawns on the c-file or e-file. It cannot be defended by other pawns, making it a potential weakness. But the squares it controls and the open files it creates give your pieces tremendous activity.
