Special Moves: En Passant

6 steps · Interactive

En passant (French for 'in passing') is the most unusual capture in chess. It can only happen immediately after an opponent's pawn advances two squares from its starting position, landing beside your pawn. Your pawn captures as if the enemy pawn had only moved one square. This right expires if you do not capture on the very next move.
