The Ruy Lopez

The Ruy Lopez (also called the Spanish Game) is the king of chess openings, played for over 500 years. After 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6, White plays 3.Bb5, putting pressure on the knight that defends e5. Named after the Spanish priest Ruy Lopez de Segura.
