The Scotch Game

The Scotch Game (1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4) is an aggressive opening where White immediately opens the center. Instead of the slower Italian or Ruy Lopez, White strikes at once with d4. Garry Kasparov revived it at the top level in the 1990s.
