The Slav Defense

The **Slav Defense** arises after 1.d4 d5 2.c4 c6. Black supports d5 with the c-pawn instead of the e-pawn. The big advantage over the Queen's Gambit Declined: the light-squared bishop can develop to f5 or g4 *before* playing ...e6.
